Find it at Calvary

Morning Prayer at the Start of a New Year

Dear Lord, I confess to wasting so much time; to putting other things before you. For I often foolishly miss the obvious fact that this time; this time with you, is where anything of worth in me is nourished.

Hebrews 12:1-2 (New International Version)
1...let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. 2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, ...

This brand new day in a brand new year, has been full of good things.

By 8.45 I was starting my Sacred Hour, and cherishing it as the food of my spirit. I opened my treasured devotional, a gift from Susan many years ago now, and read daily every year since; Amy Carmichael's Edges of His Ways.
I turned to the first pages and read the Editor's Foreword and found this line about Amy, who, at the time she wrote it, was distanced by age and infirmity from Dohnavur, the community in India for widows and children, that she had founded.
..."she knew that the way of help for them lay in her closeness to him."

Find it at Calvary

Rock of my heart and my Fortress Power
Dear are Thy thoughts to me;
Like the unfolding of leaf and flower
Opening silently.
And on the edge of these Thy ways,
Standing in awe as heretofore,
Thee do I worship, Thee do I praise
And I adore

Rock of my heart and my Fortress Tower
Dear is Thy love to me;
Search I the world for a word of power,
Find it at Calvary.
O deeps of love that rise and flow
Round about me and all things mine,
Love of all loves, in Thee I know
Love Divine

Amy Carmichael

The day unfolded with phone conversations and visits with friends. But it had started with my best friend of all, and I am a better friend for that.

I like that...because of the time with your best friend of all, you are a better friend...yes you are...yes we all can be...thanks for that reminder. It takes it out of obligation..those last whiskers of fear and doubt about His love for us...
