Flight Plans

Proverbs 3:5-6 (New International Version)
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways acknowledge him,

and he will make your paths straight.

Mum surprised us all by rallying last week, after her fall of the week before. When I called on Tuesday, the phone was answered by Charlotte, her hairdresser. Charlotte turned off the hairdryer so that Mum could say hello. It was such a blessing that she was well enough for that.

But when I called again on Saturday, she was not doing well at all. She has no appetite and is not eating. Robert said that she is getting thinner and weaker. She listened in to our phone conversation, with eyes closed, but was too weak to join in.

After such a disturbing phone call and with a sense of urgency, I said to Paul that I was going to check my schedule, to see if I could leave for England sooner than I had planned.

"Forget the schedule, your mum is all that is important now," he said, with eyes that told me his heart was breaking for us.

He was right of course and he helped me gain the focus I needed. Nothing in the coming weeks compares with being with her when she needs me and I need to be with her.

On Sunday I spoke again with Robert and he gave her the extension in her bedroom, as we spoke.

Since her beloved cat, Sam, died last October, God sent another furry emissary to fill the gap: Dido, the cat who lives in the flat above Mum's. I have no idea if Chris, his owner, knows of Dido's secret life with Mum and Robert, I rather suspect not, although she may have noticed that his appetite has decreased or that he is putting on weight. He has become a regular visitor, curling up on Mum's bed and being treated to the "sweeties" (cat treats,) she loved to give to Sam.

I asked if Dido had visited on Sunday and Robert said, "Yes, Doctor Dido was here. He had his white coat on today." His little joke made me laugh, but how I missed hearing Mum's laugh in the background.

We said our goodbyes and Mum managed to add a weak goodbye, too.

The doctor visits on Monday, and I will be booking a flight once I hear what he says. Brenda is making plans to come with me, at least for a few days.

Mum is loved by so many people and I feel as if she belongs a little bit to all of the readers of Whatever He Says, because not everyone has a mum like her. It is a comfort to know that people love her so much.

I am grateful for your prayers, specifically for God's timing of the flight.

Isaiah 30:21 (New International Version)
21 Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, "This is the way; walk in it."

Sometimes we make God's timing. Go Home. You are right, not everyone has a mother who loves them. Go say Thank You at least one more time.

I'm 'with' you on the journey and praying.

Knowing your Mum has been one of the greatest joys of my life. I will never forget the words I heard that were carried to me by the wind the first time I met her over tea on your front porch. Go. And take all our love to Mum too. We're all with you all the way...

Godspeed, my friend.

Thursday's the day dear friends. Rob agrees that will early enough and it allows Brenda to come with me easily etc. Thanks for your "God Speeds" and blessings.

I echo what everyone has already said Belinda.

Go and visit your beloved Mum. We are praying for her and you. Nothing else matters now.

Though she probably doesn't remember all of us here, give her a kiss for me and let her know of our prayers..
Much love,
Angela

Oh Belinda,

I am so glad you'll soon be with your dear Mum - all 3 generations of mums to love together and just 'be'.

I'll never forget 'Pete's' radiance and that's when I knew what or rather 'who' was the special ingredient that made you, you.

Give my love to her along with the many others and I join with those who are praying.

Hugs and prayers, dear friend.
