Relief in Five Words

It was a tough situation. Very tough. It looked bad for us. Really bad. Nevertheless, the phone call had to be made. As leader of the team, the lot fell to me. Clearly we had been wrong. So what choice did I have but to put on a mantle of humility and call. I purposed to pick up the phone at the first moment of opportunity - as soon as my busy office cleared out for privacy.

Before I had a chance to call her and break the news myself, the phone rang. She had already been notified by someone else. My heart sank. I didn’t know what she would say or how she would react. But I needn’t have feared.

“Don’t worry,” she said. “I know you.” The conversation, from that point on was easy.

Five words. "Don’t worry. I know you." Instant relief in five words.

Lord, how precious was that gift of trust today. I am so quick to judge harshly and then to react in kind. Please help me to remember the grace that flowed in that conversation today and to respond in the same way whenever I honestly can. Help me to remember who the person is, not just what I've heard about them.

Grace and trust; twin precious gifts

How good it is for someone to appreciate the hundred good things that a person has done and forgive the one mistake. I'm so happy that this person did that today.
