Commotion on the Hills

Jeremiah 4:3-4a (New International Version)
3 This is what the LORD says to the men of Judah and to Jerusalem:
"Break up your unploughed ground
and do not sow among thorns.

4 Circumcise yourselves to the LORD,

circumcise your hearts, ...

I long to have my heart ploughed deep,
A field devoted to the Lord,
The hardened clods of clay that sleep
Awoken, broken in his keep,
For him alone.

I wrote those words in February, verse two of a poem in meditation on Leviticus 27:21a
21 When the field is released in the Jubilee, it will become holy, like a field devoted to the LORD;

I thought of them again this morning when I read a verse in today's Daily Light, from Jeremiah 3:23
(New International Version)
23 Surely the idolatrous commotion on the hills
and mountains is a deception;
surely in the LORD our God
is the salvation of Israel.

As I thought of "the hills of my heart" I wondered; are they a peaceful field being ploughed and broken up by the hand of the Lord, or is there an "idolatrous commotion?"

There has been a battle of late for my heart, and at times I have felt like a car with its wheels out of alignment, wobbling and bumping along with something slightly out of place. Restlessness and lack of peace; "an idolatrous commotion" is it exactly, for when he is not first I am not happy.

Lord, there are so many distractions and I am so distractable and such a foolish child. Can you forgive me again for drifting? I know the answer and I'm so grateful, for it is your Holy Spirit who will not let me rest unless it is in you. Thank you for loving me so much that you will not let me be happy unless we are in oneness.

An "idolatrous commotion".

So that is what those anxious feelings are that come all too often. Of course!

Now, thanks to your being so real, it will be easier to recognize them for exactly what they are and let them lead me right back to his heart and to his perfect ways...

The spirit of this world strives to lead us away from peace, into distractions, even good ones.
Thank you for this, because it is His mercy and Shepherd's heart that constantly calls us back and leads us on to higher places in Him.
Let us rejoice my Sister B. in His goodness. I'm so glad we are not bound by the law, but that he has done all that is needed by His grace.(reading Galations).
We need to remind each other often, and urge each other on and sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs together.
Thank you for your honesty.
Love A
